Here I go...

From June 1-7, 2008, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Help me support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Here I go...

So here's the deal. I didn't finish ALC6, in fact I didn't even start. After months of training from late fall 2006 to March 2007, with my quads getting bigger and bigger, an I riding further, farther, and faster, I had to stop riding. I needed and had surgery for an epigastric hernia. I know, I know, ewww. I'm assuming I riped my wimpy abdominal muscles lifting (no not the wine glass) one evening at the gym, however I could have easily weakened my pesky magnum by not 'keeping my core' engaged while riding. Some of those HILLS (Highway 9, or say 84, or Old la Honda) can be quite stressful. So I had a mesh patch placed over the hole in my spare tire. Spent weeks resting, recovering, and not riding during the peak of training season debating do I ride or don't I with very limited riding. Thankfully I decided not to be a masochist and spent the duration of the ride working and following the ride on-line wishing and wishing I was there. Alas I didn't ride, but I signed up for ALC7 as soon as I possibly could. Hence the low number.

Thank you all that contributed for ALC6. I also feel I owe you all a ride.

I was up early and went to spinning class and did a killer of a spin. I had weighed myself prior to going and again when I returned, minus 2.5 lbs.

Bike is off the rack, tires pumped and don't appear to be leaking, getting my water pack ready, having a glass of wine, watching the Red Sox, and going to be getting some rest to be up early for the first 40-mile training ride tomorrow morn. It'll be my longest ride since early August.

I'll let you know how it feels.
