I'm Riding to End AIDS

I am riding AIDS/LifeCycle for the third time. I'm proud to be making a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS and  I hope you'll help me reach my $5,000 goal.

June 12: I wasn't able to ride every mile, having had knee troubles because of that foot injury and then coming down sick with bronchitis, but I did ride every mile I could. I've started posting photos and if you're a flickr user, please share yours to the ALC photo group I started a few years back.

May 29: Just one day to go! I'll post updates from the ride to my blog, adventuresinurbanliving.net

May 26: Got back out for one last ride yesterday. I haven't been able to ride for a month and I've missed being out training. I'd planned to turn back early after heading out with my roommate. One of his friends reminded me for most people 50 miles is not a "short ride."

May 22: I started physical therapy and had my bike refit, just the smallest adjustments started making a big difference.

May 20: I'm riding! I'm starting physical therapy tomorrow because of my foot, but I will be able to ride this year.

May 17: I tore my plantar plate and will never be able to squeeze my second toe again. I got an injection for the joint problems and should have been back on my bike tomorrow, but it's still really inflamed and swollen.

May 14: I had an MRI on my foot this morning. Everyone in Doctor Sander's office has been fantastic trying to get me back on my bike, but it's still going to take up to 48 hours for them to get the results. I'm probably not going to be able to ride again this weekend and I'm getting really worried about how shape I'll be for the ride loosing three weekends of training this close to the ride.

May 13: Put the order in for Team TypePad jerseys. The company doesn't offer matching funds for us individually, just donating TypePad service and promoting it on TypePad and Vox.

May 12: I saw another podiatrist today for my foot. She smiled and told me she road California AIDSRide 3 right before telling me I will be riding this year. I need an MRI to very and make sure there's nothing else, but a shot into the joint and Ill be back on my bike in a couple days.

Thank you to everyone who's been supportive as I've been limping around for the last week.

May 5: I have a pinched nerve in my foot and I have to stay off of it for a few days which means no training this week for me, but I'll be out this weekend.

April 26: 85 miles today on Day on the Ride. I ended up at the very last of all 600 riders because I was on the bridge for 45 minutes following an accident with one of our riders and a cyclist coming the other way. Her leg was broken and I was on the phone back and forth with dispatch to make sure they knew were she was and transport arrived for her friends and all the bikes.

April 19: About to go on an 85 mile ride. Not sure where we're headed, probably Point Reyes up in Marin County.

April 13: Road 80 miles, looping around the Nicasio Reservoir just short of Point Reyes, first time I've ridden that far in a year.
