Riding in Lifecycle 2008!Hi everyone, thanks to all of you I have have raised over $13,500.00! WOW, this is amazing and I am so proud of our accomplishment in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Together we have made a tremendous contribution to countless people who need our help. My hand is in good working order after my March bike accident and surgery so Ive decided to ride. Special thanks to Dr Green, Kim and Maybeth (my physical therapists) and everyone who has nursed me back to health. We leave this Sunday @ 6am from the Cow Palace in San Francisco for our 7 day, 545 mile journey down the California coast to LA. I am madly packing and picking up last minute things today and tomorow all the while getting more excited about the ride and the experiences which await us. Dan Ripley (#1848), Cathy Storfer (#2555), Scott Lucas (#2613) and Denise Bellotti (#2090) join in this ride and all of us are so excited to get started. Heres how you can reach us during the week; send us support and messages of inspiration while we are on our trip! Imagine how great it will feel to go online after a long day of riding and read some words of encouragement from our family and friends. The folks at Aids lifecycle have anticipated this need, and have set us up in the following ways: I will have my cell phone with me, but will only be checking it for emergencies. I will send out a note and photos when we get back! Wish us good weather and lots of tailwinds-

Geoffrey's BlogSunday, May 25, 20089:03 PMI can ride!I can ride!! I rode today for the first time since my bike accident on March 8th. Cathy and Scott chaperoned me as we rode to Lagunitas, 37 miles. It felt great to be back on the bike after all this time and to prove to myself that I could do it. My thumb, palm and wrist were sore and swollen but not enough to make me want to stop. My bike I have to say is fabulous and gorgeous after being tuned, cleaned and spiffied up my American Cyclery. It now has red striped tires that match my red bike! Its just beautiful and rides like a dream. It was a perfect day weather wise which I hope we have on the ride. Sunny with cloud coverage and mild temperatures. Thank God I have good strong legs to get me back up to speed. I kept up pretty well but I was fairly wiped out. Cathy and Scott have come a long way let me tell you. They both have become very strong riders, even Cathy sharing with us how many miles up this hill or back to Fairfax. Type A that one and I love her for it. Whites Hill was hard but once you get over it and down the backside to San Geronimo and into Lagunitas its so beautiful. I guess overall it just makes me happy to be riding again. I feel really lucky to be able to ride with my friends and share in the beautiful scenery and comraderie. Im so excited for next weekend and for the ride to begin. That is, I lasted the whole class and kept up, which is not easy in Joel's 6:30am classes. The best part is you sweat so much that you're bound to loose weight. Please God. If felt pretty good. My hand is sore but managable. I'll try and again tomorow and continue to build up momentum to catch up with my training. I took my bike today to American Cyclery to get it tuned up and be fitted for new tires. I might as well get the bike in safe, tip top shape in anticipation of riding again. I hope maybe I'll have more dexterity and feeling in my left hand as each day passes so I can get back to spinning classes and a training ride. Physical therapy starts on Wednesday morning so we'll see. Anyway, just wanted to keep you all posted on my progress.I really am so happy to have the cast off and I feel really optimistic about the possibibility of riding. Wish me luck and thank you everyone for your incredible support. Its working! Permalink | Share this posting : Care2 News | del.icio.us | digg | NewsVine | Reddit | YahooMyWeb Tuesday, May 6, 200810:16 PMThank God for two hands (especially when one is broken)!Ok, so I am soooo sick of this cast! Dirty, stinky, ugly and its hard to coordiante with outfits. I'm trying to be a good patient and I think for the most part I have been. Its just that Im now ready for this to be finished. I hope my doctor agrees when I see him on Friday. Its definitely sinking in that I might not be able to ride due to the injury. Ive learned a valuable lesson that I need and want both my hands back in good working order. If it means I sit this one out and crew, than thats what it will be. Its been amazing to watch the transformation of my freinds Cathy, Scott, Dan and Denise. All are riding every weekend, training hard and comparing stories and bike routes. Its so much fun to witness the excitement and commitment that they have and along with everyone associated with the ride. Dan, his partner Jeff and I went to the SF AIDS Foundation Leadership Dinner last week and witnessed first hand why we are committed to this ride and the amazing work the foundation and its supporters do for people living with HIV and AIDS. It was an inspiring night filled with hope and optimism for a future without HIV and AIDS. This explains why my thumb and palm would not heal after my other road rashes did. I had surgery last Tuesday and am in a cast for sometime. No riding for me for a while. I am however riding and sweating vicariously through the reports by Mr Ripley, Cathy and Scott. I hope to be back in the saddle with them and the other riders in late May. Im with you all in spirt. Go riders!!!!!!! Permalink | Share this posting : Care2 News | del.icio.us | digg | NewsVine | Reddit | YahooMyWeb Monday, March 31, 20089:12 PMMarin Headlands and FairfaxLast Saturday I rode with Cathy and Scott for the first time since my little spill. It was hard and painful but I did it and completed our 42 miles. It was super cold in the morning but warmed up as we heading into Fairfax. It felt great to be back on the bike and riding again after being off for the past three weeks. As usual Cathy and Scott were cheering me on as we rode. Cathy is riding so well and I was so proud to see her leading us and riding so strongly. Scott is a naturalk athlete has great form. I thinnk they both are having alot of fun. Thats all for now-off to bed. Permalink | Share this posting : Care2 News | del.icio.us | digg | NewsVine | Reddit | YahooMyWeb Saturday, March 22, 20087:56 AMMy First (and better be last) Crash/RashOk, so Im not invincible. I thought I was so cool because I had done the ride last year and knew all you needed to know. Two weeks ago I was on a training ride and had a bike accident on the way back from completing a 45 mile ride in Marin. Beautiful day and bamm, Im on the ground with major , nasty roadrash, sprained hand, shoulder and bruised ribs. Hey but Im ok, Im tough....it did hurt alot and is sidelining me for a short bit but Im determined to get back on the saddle and ride my butt off very soon. I must give major shout outs to my gang; Nurse Ratchet Dan and Cathy, who have monitored my recovery from the initial tumble. Special kudos to my personal ambulance driver and assisitant John and Wesley Applegarth, who delivered me to the emergency room. Lesson learned.. So you can teach an old dog new tricks and this old dog learned the valuable lesson that I need to be extra careful and diligent when Im on the road. Thank you to everyone for your good wishes and encouragement, I hope to be back on my bike very soon. Happy Easter!!!!
